What is a freegan?

"Freegan" is an amalgamation of the words "free" and "vegan". Vegans are
people who avoid products from animal sources or products tested on animals in an
effort to avoid harming animals. Freegans take this a step further by recognizing that in
a complex,
...
Freeganism is a total boycott of
an economic system where the profit motive has eclipsed ethical
considerations and where massively complex systems of productions ensure that the
products we buy will have detrimental impacts we may never even consider.
After years of trying to boycott products from egregious corporations,
and finding that no matter what we bought we ended up supporting something deplorable,
...
Perhaps the most notorious freegan strategy is what is commonly called
"urban foraging" or "dumpster diving."
This technique involved rummaging through the garbage of retailers,
residences, offices, and other facilities for useful goods. Despite our
society's sterotypes about refuse, the goods recovered by freegans are safe,
useable, clean, and in perfect or near-perfect condition, a symptom of a throwaway
culture that encourages us to constantly
replace our older goods with newer ones, and where retailers plan
high-volume product disposal as part of their economic model.
Some urban foragers forage alone, others in

a bunch of link hopping from freegan.info got me to http://www.livejournal.com/users/nvc_anarchy/

I'm still amazed at how quickly a blog allows me to digest a stranger's life - fairly or not.
I'm a consumer of nvc_anarchy's life (for a while) - kinda against everything that he seems to want.

Also picked up a nice anarchy emblem - green anarchy

17:58

did 4km in 17:58 on the treadmill yesterday.
I have no idea how that would translate to the road.

but this does show just how hard a silver (sub 90 minutes) half-marathon really is.

4 k's in 17:58 translates to about 4:30 per k.
to do a sub 90 minute 21.1 k you need to do 4:20 per k - 21 times!

shoe!

I love gmail conversations.

gen mag miskien 'n job kry by 'n holt renfrew spa. ek is nog besig om
te verf en om na computer jobs te soek.
vir time being sal ek 'n domestic executive wees.

Definitely A Wild Sheep Chase - dit is sy mees enjoyable boek, by far.
Maar as jy iets rerig intense wil he (maar ook baie evil/violent), The
Wind-up Bird Chronicle - sy beste boek.

Just beware, Wind-up Bird Chronicle is 'n BAIE intense boek, BAIE.
Daar is 'n recurring theme in Murakami se boeke (soos die Johnnie
Walker character in Kafka) van evil forces wat in die wereld exist.
Nie eveil like the deveil nie - die evil in sy boeke probeer nooit
mense verlei nie.
Net baie koud, serious evil vir wie mense meer van 'n nuisance is as
enigiets anders.
Die evil in Wind-up Bird laat Johnnie Walker van Kafka soos Oprah lyk.

wet

Very wet and cold last few days.
Wonder how the little plants in the Constantia green belt are doing (if they haven’t all been eaten by snails yet).
Spent last night counting wine in Kenilworth stocktake - not nearly as pleasant as it sounds.

open funeral with doors

so yes, it's waay pretentious to prepare tunes for your own funeral.
but if I were to make a list I would open with a sooped up version of The Doors' LA Woman.
...possibly followed by Prince - Cream.

music: just got A Perfect Circle - Mer de Noms damn!

J.O.B.

it's just a J.O.B.
no it's a career
no it's just a J.O.B.

so I've entered the market (just when it's looking like we PnP employees may win the training contract thing) - but have decided to be firm about wanting a kick-ass opportunity.

the fact is that PnP is a good deal and the SAP experience will be valuable.

...of course I've really always wanted to run a hardware store.
more on that later (Fixit Hardware and Handyman).
